Nelson J. Maldonado, MD, is professor of Neurology at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) and Neurology Chair at Hospital de los Valles Quito-Ecuador. He’s also CEO and founder of Neuro Quito (Neurology Institute). Dr. Maldonado completed medical school in Ecuador and then underwent neurology training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and neuro ICU training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After finishing his training in the United States, Dr. Maldonado returned to Ecuador to establish neurocritical care in his country. He has since helped develop neurocritical care awareness and improved neurocritical are management for South American patients. Dr. Maldonado is the South America representative for Currents, where he promotes the neurocritical care-related improvements in the region.
