Supporting the Future of Neurocritical Care: The Neurocritical Care Foundation Legacy
Published on: September 21, 2023
Recall a challenging patient who was under your care. Perhaps this was recent, or this is someone who sticks with you from many years ago. These patients drift in and out of my consciousness regularly. Our minds are littered with the memories of patients, their families, the difficult decisions in complex situations. Our limbic systems have assigned emotion to the many challenging situations we all face. How can we channel frustrating limitations and find catharsis looking to the future? Our legacy is with the Neurocritical Care Foundation.
I give to the Neurocritical Care Foundation because it holds the key to accelerating the pace of discovery and dissemination of knowledge at a time when our field stands at the precipice of revolutionary change. I was the beneficiary of an early career development fellowship award that was truly transformative and shaped the trajectory of my career. I often wondered how we could create similar opportunities within the neurocritical care society. Your support of the Foundation will do just that and more by invigorating research and education among a group of acute brain injury specialists most able to appreciate the nuances of the task at hand. What hypothesis can we test that will shape the future of acute brain injury care? As my career advances I’ve enjoyed being part of our larger community within the Neurocritical Care Society, and I feel an even greater sense of connection to battling the challenges ahead through my annual giving to the Neurocritical Care Foundation. There is no other philanthropic organization with the singular vision to tackle the host of challenges presented by patients with acute brain injury. This is why I give to the Neurocritical Care Foundation.
In our first year of active philanthropic outreach the Foundation has received numerous donations from members of the Neurocritical Care Society, including several from visionary leaders above the $10,000 level. At the corporate level, Marinus Pharmaceuticals and AstraZeneca have partnered with the Foundation at the $100,000 level. This is a landscape of philanthropic giving that directly benefits the research and education priorities set forth by the Neurocritical Care Society. Your gift directly supports core initiatives like the Curing Coma Campaign, the INCLINE grant for career development of neurocritical care researchers, Biomarker development, subarachnoid hemorrhage care in Latin America, and digital educational programs with global reach.
After connecting at the Neurocritical Care Society Annual Meeting in Phoenix I am asking you to make a gift that will have both immediate and lasting impacts on our field. Please join me in writing this next chapter. Your gift will establish a legacy that reaches far beyond any one person’s memories of our challenging patients. Collectively, through the Neurocritical Care Foundation we can accomplish so much more. Visit the Neurocritical Care Foundation's website to make a gift today.
