President's Update - November 2025
Published on: November 03, 2025
Dear NCS Family,
Welcome to November – a season that naturally invites reflection and gratitude. As we move into the final stretch of the year, I find myself deeply thankful for the incredible NCS community – a network of professionals who embody collaboration, innovation and compassion every single day. Whether you’re providing expert bedside care, advancing research, mentoring colleagues or volunteering your time with NCS, your contributions strengthen our field and make a real difference for patients around the world.
Thank You, Volunteers
This month, I’d like to take a moment to shine a light on the many volunteers whose dedication powers our society–from committee members to contributors to our Board of Directors. At the Annual Meeting in Montréal, we had the honor of introducing new NCS Board members, and I’m thrilled to introduce them more broadly here:
- Secretary: Susanne Muehlschlegel, MD, MPH, FNCS, FCCM, FAAN
- Director-at-Large: Katharina Busl, MD, MS, FAAN, FCCM, FNCS
- Director-at-Large: Ebonye Greene, DNP, ACNPC-AG, CNRN, SCRN, APRN, FNCS
- International Representative: Jamil R. Dibu, MD, MBA, FNCS
- International Representative: Jeffrey Singh, MD, FRCPC, FNCS
- Trainee Member: Angel Cadena-Tejada, MD
Each of these leaders brings a unique perspective and an unwavering commitment to advancing our mission, and together, we are working to ensure NCS remains a dynamic, inclusive and forward-looking home for the neurocritical care community.
A Month Into the Presidency…
As I reflect on the past month, I would like to note some lessons learned, strengths of our society, areas of focus and our vision for the future. First, leadership is all about a shared responsibility to serve our constituents, which means you and our patients. Leadership is not about any one person but rather forming a well-functioning group that is goal-driven, focused and deliberate. Second, we are proudly multi-disciplinary, which is perhaps our greatest strength; we are also in a strong financial position as a society, which is a good place to be in this environment. Third, we are laser focused on developing a strategic plan that will empower our membership, enable groundbreaking research, further the educational mission, enhance mentorship and strengthen our relationships, whether it is with other societies or the communities we serve. We are all about “making it happen,” and I hope you all feel and see tangible positive changes.
Renew Your NCS Membership
As we look ahead, I encourage you to take a moment to renew your NCS membership for 2026, if you have not done so already. Memberships expire on December 31, unless you opted for this year’s extended membership option. Renewing early ensures uninterrupted access to your benefits – from the Neurocritical Care journal and free CME opportunities to advocacy efforts, education and a global community dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
Support World Coma Day
Finally, I invite you to join us in supporting a cause at the heart of our community–World Coma Day. While the event takes place on March 22, 2026, fundraising is already underway to fuel awareness and research efforts. Consider contributing to our World Coma Day campaign and take a few minutes to watch and share our inspiring Stories of Hope playlist, which highlights the remarkable journeys of patients and families impacted by coma and recovery.
Thank you all for making NCS a strong and impactful organization! Your engagement, expertise and passion make all the difference–and I’m truly grateful to serve alongside you.
