President's Update - March 2026
Published on: March 02, 2026
Dear NCS Family,
Welcome to March — a season of renewal and fresh momentum! As we step into this new month, I’m reminded of the strength and collective impact of our neurocritical care community, and the many meaningful opportunities we have to celebrate, contribute and lead together.
March brings several important observances that align with our mission and the work we do each day. Throughout the month, we have meaningful opportunities to raise awareness and recognize the extraordinary multidisciplinary teams whose expertise and compassion drive excellence in patient care. Learn more about March observances further below.
If you’re wondering what exactly the NCS Board of Directors has been up to – the answer is: quite a lot! Here is a snapshot of recent efforts happening behind the scenes that support and impact the lives and practices of our members:
- Approval of our new Strategic Plan: This long-anticipated milestone sets the direction for our five pillars (Education, Research, Member Engagement and Community Building, Strategic Partnerships and Positioning and Organizational Excellence). You will soon see how these priorities translate into committee-driven action plans – stay tuned for much more on this!
- Memorandum of Understanding between NCS and the Neurocritical Care Foundation: We are hitting our stride in collaborative fundraising and are excited by the growing alignment between our organizations to support neurocritical care research and education!
- Guidelines Approval: The Board approved new guidelines again in February, with additional guidelines forthcoming in the months ahead.
- Approval of the 2026 Budget: This includes many strategic investments designed to meet the evolving needs of our members and the patients we serve.
- Mentorship Program Development: We heard you loud and clear. A new mentorship program is in development, supported by newly-invested software and led by Lori Shutter. We look forward to launching this to members later this year.
- Membership “10-Point Plan”: We’ve drafted a collaborative plan with the Membership Committee to better meet member needs, proactively support engagement and ensure that all disciplines practicing neurocritical care find their home within the NCS.
In closing, we have a lot going on, and much to be excited about! Please know that we are always listening and learning, and open to new and different ideas. Please feel empowered and encouraged to reach out if you want to meet, chat or even just email an idea – this is your society, and all ideas are welcome! Until then, let’s hope for an early spring and I wish the best of health and success.
Warm regards,
David M. Greer, MD, MA, FCCM, FAHA, FNCS, FAAN, FANA
