President's Update - June 2026
Published on: June 01, 2026
Dear NCS Family,
Welcome to June! It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the year. As we move into the summer months here in the United States, I continue to be inspired by the incredible work happening across our multidisciplinary neurocritical care community – advancing research, education and patient care in meaningful ways.
One of NCS’s core commitments is supporting the growth and development of our members through research and educational opportunities. I encourage you to take advantage of several upcoming grant opportunities designed to help advance your work and professional development. If you are planning to attend the Annual Meeting, don’t forget that Annual Meeting Travel Grant applications are due June 30. We also have important research funding deadlines approaching, including the ITDC Grant Letter of Intent deadline on June 14 and Small Grants for Big Ideas applications due July 1. Whether you are early in your career or advancing a new idea, I encourage you to explore these opportunities.
Speaking of opportunities to connect and learn – registration is now open for the NCS 24th Annual Meeting, and I hope you’ll join us this October in Seattle! The Annual Meeting remains our premier multidisciplinary gathering, bringing together the latest science, education and collaboration opportunities across neurocritical care. It promises to be another can’t-miss event, so be sure to secure your spot by the July 31 early registration deadline. I’m also excited to share that our Call for Late-Breaking Abstracts opens later this month, creating another opportunity to showcase emerging science and innovation, so be on the lookout for more information.
You may be wondering what else is ahead for NCS this year – and there is much to look forward to. We will soon launch a new mentorship program later this month, designed to foster meaningful professional connections across our multidisciplinary community. The program will begin with a call for applications for both mentors and mentees, followed by a matching process, with plans to connect participants in August. Stay tuned for more details and opportunities to get involved. We are also reinvigorating our research efforts in tangible ways and reimagining several of our educational offerings, including the addition of more bedside tools (by popular demand!). At the same time, we are being thoughtful and strategic about expanding collaborations across specialties and with partner organizations both in the U.S. and internationally. I look forward to sharing more updates with you in the months ahead.
Lastly, a quick but important reminder that the NCS Annual Business Meeting will take place virtually on June 26. Please mark your calendars – we look forward to connecting with you there and sharing important Society updates.
Thank you for all you do to strengthen our community and advance neurocritical care. I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter, and I look forward to all we will accomplish together in the second half of the year!
Warm regards,
David M. Greer, MD, MA, FCCM, FAHA, FNCS, FAAN, FANA
