President's Update - December 2025
Published on: December 01, 2025
Dear NCS Family,
As we approach the end of the year, it is a time of reflection, gathering, love and peace. I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your dedication to advancing neurocritical care. Your contributions — through clinical practice, research, mentorship and engagement — truly make a difference.
Honoring National Nurse Practitioner Week
Last month, from November 9–15, we recognized National Nurse Practitioner Week and the vital role nurse practitioners play in neurocritical care. Their expertise, leadership and dedication make a meaningful impact on patient care every day, and we are grateful for their contributions to our field.
Renew Your NCS Membership
If you haven’t yet renewed your NCS membership for 2026, now is the perfect time. Memberships expire on December 31, and renewing ensures you remain connected to the benefits, resources and global network that make our society strong!
Save On Valuable Resources
Don’t miss our end-of-year education promotion! Use promo code Thanks20 to save 20% on three key resources: Neurocritical Care ON CALL®, ENLS® Version 6.0 Manuscript and The Practice of Neurocritical Care, 2nd Edition.
Giving Tuesday is Tomorrow
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, a global day of generosity. This is a special opportunity to support research in underfunded areas. Any amount matters and showing your support is more important than the size of the donation — whether it’s $5 or more, your participation helps fuel meaningful progress.
Support the Neurocritical Care Foundation
As the year comes to a close, I encourage you to consider supporting the Neurocritical Care Foundation. Your gifts fund critical research, support education and help advance care for patients worldwide. Every donation — large or small — makes a lasting impact and demonstrates pride in our collective mission.
2025: A Year in Review
This year, NCS achieved significant milestones in membership engagement and global outreach:
- Expanded our international presence through global meetings, strengthening connections across the neurocritical care community.
- Launched the HEARD Center Mentorship Program, a new member benefit providing early-career professionals with valuable guidance and support.
- Optimized NCS operations in collaboration with headquarters staff, enhancing member support and updating our Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Updated the NCS Learning Center, offering a better user experience, curated pathways and easier access to educational resources.
- Focused on listening and responding to member needs through a Member Perception Study, Board listen-in sessions and a survey of lapsed members.
- Conducted comprehensive surveys and international focus groups via our APP and Nursing Committees to identify actionable steps that support and empower these essential members of our community.
But we still have much work ahead. I want to assure you that your leadership is fully committed and hard at work to meet the needs of NCS members and the patients we serve. We have heard you loud and clear for a strengthened, society-wide mentorship program, and we plan to introduce a new structure in early 2026.
We will also be launching a new strategic plan for 2026-2028, which will guide our major initiatives and set a clear direction for the years ahead. In addition, several new and exciting guidelines are nearing completion and will be released soon.
Our HEARD Committee is also developing a new strategic plan that will further champion equitable care throughout the field. And finally, we are cultivating several strategic partnerships with peer societies — collaborations that will elevate our work, broaden our reach and strengthen our impact.
As we wrap up 2025, I am so proud of what we have accomplished together and am truly grateful for your continued support and commitment. What you all do is important, impactful and meaningful, and I hope you take the time to know how much you’re appreciated by the NCS for all that you do. Let’s carry this momentum into the new year, strengthening our society, supporting our members and advancing the field of neurocritical care worldwide.
