The fifth Asia-Oceanian Regional Chapter Meeting of the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) was conducted on August 20, 2023, at the Suntec Convention Center in Singapore, in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Intensive Care Symposium 2023 (APICS). The representatives from the Global Partner Societies attending the meeting were Prof. Yingying Su (Chinese Society of Neurology, China Neurologist Association, China), Dr. Liu Gang (China), Dr. Kapil Zirpe (ISCCM, India), Dr. Saurabh Anand (ISNACC & NCSI, India), Prof. Hemanshu Prabhakar (SNCC, India), Prof. Masao Nagayama (JNE, Japan), Dr. Ji Man Hong (KNCS, Korea), Prof. Maria Isabelita C Rogado (PNCS. The three members of NCS leadership who attended were Sarah Livesay, Susan Yeager, and Gene Sung from the United States, each of whom had supported and encouraged the gathering. Following talks from NCS leadership, each Global Partner representative delivered a brief presentation (with a pre-recorded video by Prof. Udy) about the status of neurocritical care, existing challenges, and future plans in their respective nations. The session was chaired by Sarah Livesay (Immediate Past President of the NCS) and Gentle S. Shrestha (NCS Asia Oceania regional chapter chair).

After these presentations, there was a face-to-face meeting between representatives from the Global Partner Societies and NCS leadership, with a healthy and interactive discussion among all participants. There was a recognized need for enhanced collaboration between the Global Partner Societies within the region and with NCS, with a focus on connectivity, research, education, and awareness. With the objective of meeting these goals and promoting the development of neurocritical care in the region, various steps were planned, including defining the job responsibilities of the regional Board of Directors representative (Chapter Chair), identifying committees and leads to facilitate and conduct webinars, educational activities, and research, and to raise awareness about neurocritical illnesses. Several representatives from the Global Partner Societies expressed interest in leading and facilitating the proposed committees/sections, including SNCC India in conducting webinars and promoting educational activities, Dr. Gentle Shrestha in promoting research activities, and Global Partners from the Philippines in promoting awareness campaigns. NCS representatives also pledged to continue their ongoing support in developing neurocritical care in the region, including working with the Chapter Chair and Research Lead to communicate key NCS projects and research studies. In summary, key goals for the future would be to enhance collaboration, foster cohesiveness, and facilitate development of neurocritical care in the region.
