From Montréal to the Future: How the Neurocritical Care Society’s 23rd Annual Meeting is Cultivating Change
Published on: June 02, 2025
Neurocritical care is constantly evolving thanks to new discoveries, emerging challenges, and advancements in bedside practice. The Neurocritical Care Society’s 23rd Annual Meeting, taking place in Montréal, Québec on September 18-21, 2025, is all about embracing this progress. But this meeting is about more than just science — it’s a space for experts to share ideas, tackle real-world challenges, and connect with others to help shape the future of neurocritical care. This year’s theme, “Leaves of Change,” highlights the field’s transformation and the people leading the way.
To explore what’s ahead, NCS Currents staff spoke with Dave Greer, NCS Conference Chair and Vice President, about what makes the 2025 meeting in Montréal stand out and what attendees can expect.
Q: The theme for the 2025 Annual Meeting is "Leaves of Change." How do you envision it shaping the meeting experience?
A: Our world is changing rapidly around us, and few fields of medicine reflect that change more than neurocritical care. We must learn to adapt—embracing both advancements and challenges—while demonstrating resilience and a strong sense of community. By working together, we can discover new cures and bring sound practices to the bedside.
Q: What do you hope attendees take away from the meeting, both professionally and personally?
A: More than anything, I want them to leave with a sense of hope. Hope for where neurocritical care is headed, excitement for the incredible science and bedside practices being developed, and appreciation for the tight-knit, multidisciplinary community we have. These are our great sources of strength.
Q: How will this year’s meeting build on the success of previous meetings, and what makes it unique?
A: If one thing is clear, it’s that people love to be together! Whether it’s through networking, learning about exciting developments in our field, or engaging in vigorous and thrilling debates, that shared experience is invaluable. The key ingredient is helping people feel like they are part of something wonderful and bigger than themselves.
Q: What are your main goals for the 2025 Annual Meeting in Montréal?
A: My goals are to establish a vibrant and inspirational program that can give people a sense of community and belonging, advance the science, and enhance practice at the bedside worldwide. I hope we meet the needs of all of our members, regardless of their background, age, or stage in their career.
Q: Can you share any behind-the-scenes insights into the planning process for this year’s meeting? What’s been the most exciting part so far?
A: Interesting question! The most fun part has been pulling together a group of people who are all passionate about making this meeting incredible. It’s exciting to see different perspectives come together with one shared goal: putting on a great event.
Q: Montréal is a vibrant city. Are there any plans to incorporate the local culture or setting into the meeting experience?
A: Absolutely. The convention center is right in the heart of the city, so attendees will have plenty of chances to explore. Amazing food, museums, even the circus— Montréal has so much to offer, and we want people to take advantage of that while they’re here.
Q: Looking beyond the meeting, how do you hope it impacts the field of neurocritical care in the years to come?
A: Every annual meeting strives to be memorable, and this one is no exception. I hope this meeting is remembered for the new friendships made, new science and practices learned, and a new hope for our future in neurocritical care.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like attendees to know about the meeting or your vision for it?
A: Just that we’re excited to see everyone in Montréal. This meeting is for you, and we’re working hard to make it a meaningful experience.
